In the mids, musician Louis Jordan made short films for his songs, some of which were spliced together into a feature film, Lookout Sister. These films were, according to music historian Donald Clarkethe "ancestors" of music video. Musical films were another important precursor to music video, and several well-known music videos have imitated the style of classic Hollywood musicals from the s to the s. Several of Michael Jackson 's videos show the unmistakable influence of the dance sequences in classic Hollywood musicals, including the landmark " Thriller " and the Martin Scorsese -directed " Bad ", which was influenced by the stylized dance "fights" in the film version of West Side Story.
In his autobiography, Tony Bennett claims to have created " Its use spread to other countries, and similar machines such as the Cinebox in Italy and Color-sonic in the USA were patented. It also predates what the Beatles did with promotional films of their single " Paperback Writer " and B-Side " Rain " both released in Shot in black-and-white and presented as a mock documentaryit interspersed comedic and dialogue sequences with musical tones. The musical sequences furnished basic templates on which countless subsequent music videos were modeled.
It was the direct model for the successful US TV series The Monkees —which similarly consisted of film segments that were created to accompany various Monkees songs. The title track sequence, filmed in black-and-white, is arguably one of the prime archetypes of the modern performance-style music video, employing rhythmic cross-cutting, contrasting long shots and close-ups, and unusual shots and camera angles, such as the shot 50 seconds into the song, in which George Harrison's left hand and the neck of his guitar are seen in sharp focus in the foreground while the completely out-of-focus figure of John Lennon sings in the background.
Inthe Beatles began making promotional clips then known as "filmed inserts" for distribution and broadcast in other countries—primarily the USA—so they could promote their record releases without having to make in-person appearances. Michaelson filmed the video by herself over the course of several weeks, using nothing but Snapchat filters. The result is a fun amalgamation of short clips that support the generally lighthearted nature of the song.
Featuring a multitude of celebrity cameos and people dancing to the song in Los Angeles, the video was such a hit that many fans created tribute videos in their own cities. Beyond the video's quality, it's admirable for the sheer undertaking of creating it. I feel the video itself complements the song well and pushes the collective artistic statement to another level.
The video for everybody's favorite breakup song was directed by Natasha Pincus. It took 23 hours to paint both Gotye and Kimbra to match the background, which itself was based on Gotye's father's artwork. The video does well to match the song's bizarre structuring for a duet that doesn't see its second singer enter until it's over halfway done, with the camera staying tight on Gotye until a simple zoom-out introduces Kimbra's presence.
The camera work and design do well to encapsulate the strained intimacy embodied by the number. The fanciful visuals are a strange juxtaposition to the very dark lyrics, but they also manage to capture those lyrics. Beyond that, it's visually stunning. The imagery and dancers eventually combine into beautiful shapes that are both abstract and suggestive with Legend as the throughline, a seeming trip through his imagination. The result is slightly trippy and a lot of fun.
Her stop-motion animation is an enthralling and nuanced visual treat that complements the music brilliantly. FKA twigs directed the video herself, noting that she chose to suspend her body by her own hair because "using my own hair represents me at one time being suspended and held back by my own fears.

It weaves a complex storyline through Hurricane Katrina, race relations, police brutality, and cultural representation and pride. It takes a certain succinctness to reference so many deeply nuanced topics in four minutes and still place a personal brand on it.
So raw was the topless sequence and footage of skin piercings that it was initially banned by MTV. The director gave the singer a camera for the topless portion and told her to "film her love life.

This one is still one of my favorites. One of the first ones filmed with a mobile phone - the Nokia N8. Great list!Star Wars. The Lord of the Rings. Home Alone. And most recently, Guardians of the Galaxy. Each of these films are outstanding. From beginning to end, the soundtrack of Home Alone — and the soundtrack of each the aforementioned films — provides the bedrock that supports the entire film.
To answer that question, I point to Guardians of the Galaxy. What I find most interesting about this film was the soundtrack. Point being, using existing songs in a soundtrack can be just as powerful as creating originals.
It all comes down to finding the right song. Before I list my favorite sites for finding audio tracks, I want to quickly cover the dull, but necessary, topic of licensing.
Guardians of the Galaxy did not have this right with the songs they used. For instance, their use of Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede would be subject to royalties. The song belongs to the artist, so each time Guardians of the Galaxy uses it, a fee has to be paid to the owner of the copyright. Licensing fee administration can be a complicated and expensive procedure, so this article focuses solely on royalty-free tracks. If you want to know more about using licensed tracks in your videos, this is a helpful article.
I use only music that is royalty-free in all my church videos, and I suggest you do the same. Truthfully, there are thousands of sites that do this across the web. Each of the sites below comes with a brief description and a rank out of 10 when it comes to price, quality, and my overall experience with them.
Licensing audio has always been an expensive task. But Soundstripe has flipped the licensing model on its head. Instead of paying a flat fee for individual tracks, Soundstripe operates on a subscription model. And this is the single best option for churches. A tremendous bargain. Personally, what I love most about Marmoset are the playlists. Every month Marmoset releases a mixtape for the given month and, more than that, Marmoset releases timely playlists.
For instance, when the Stranger Things phenomenon was at its peak, Marmoset released a playlist called Stranger Things. Marmoset also offers a podcast license. Podcast licensing can be tricky because the track needs to be re-used over and over. And this can get pricey. Marmoset is where we found the music for the Pro Church Podcast. They also offer the best podcasting license. AudioJungle is part of the Envato marketplace, and that means artists from all over the world are contributing to the selections of music.
AudioJungle also has a wide selection of sound effects — not just audio tracks. I used AudioJungle almost exclusively when I began creating videos. One of my favorite features of PremiumBeat is that your purchase of a song comes with loops as well as the full version. This is especially useful for video announcements and interviews where the length of the video is always undetermined. And that will give you the full version of the track, the loops, and a short version as well.Lauren Daigle - You Say (Official Music Video)
